Claire Walsh is a Chartered Member of IOSH and Member of the Institute of Risk & Safety Management, Associate Member of the Institute of Leadership & Management, and Associate Member of the Association of Occupational Health Practitioners. She has been a Health and Safety Practitioner for over 20 years, working in diverse fields such as heavy and light engineering, local authority, the 3rd sector, and a UK wide organisation delivering investment, construction and maintenance services.

Claire is the Health, Wellbeing and Injury Prevention Manager for BAE Systems plc, covering the UK & Rest of World businesses, with an employee population of 55 000, where she has responsibility for developing world class health and wellbeing strategies.

In her previous role in the Naval Ships section of the business, Claire rolled out a #breakthestigma plan, to both raise awareness of and address the causes of poor mental health at work. She led the first Quality of Working Life assessment for all employees in the business, based on the HSE’s Management Standards, but also incorporating wellbeing, resilience and team performance.

Claire has been involved in the Safety Groups movement in Scotland for many years, and was on the working group for the award winning HSE/SCHWL/RoSPA/SCOS “Health Risks at Work – Do you Know yours?” toolkit. She was also involved in developing the Breathe Freely campaign in the manufacturing sector.

In her free time (during non-COVID times!), Claire enjoys singing in her local Rock Choir, showing her pedigree cats, and is an advanced scuba diver.
